When customers come into the fabric department and purchase copious amounts of fabric, curiosity takes hold of me and I just have to ask: “what are you working on?” This was the case with Evan Nesbit who lives and works in Nevada City, CA. After measuring out yards and yards at a time of natural and colored burlap, we just had to know what he was making. Little did we know that this quiet artist was an international mixed media star! This contemporary artist earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in 2009 and then studied at the Yale University School of Art in 2012, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree and won the prestigious Ely Harwood Schless Memorial Fund Prize. He has been in many group exhibitions and several solo ones as well. What he does with simple burlap is amazing! He creates lines and dimension, adds color and takes it away and gives burlap a completely different feel- he gives it emotion.
