Lately, we have been bombarded with requests for knitted headbands. They are so cute, it is no wonder why! We have a new pattern for a knitted headband ear warmer by Tif Matthews. Not only is this an adorable and trendy accessory to add a little warmth, it is also an inexpensive and quick project!
Typically, I don’t knit Christmas gifts. I just don’t have the time. This morning I woke up at 5 A.M. in a panic. Christmas is only 11 days away, and there are a few people on my list that I’ve not any gifts for yet! I looked through my copy of “More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts,” and I was saved. This is a lovely book that has is projects divided into 5 sections… Less-than-2-hour gifts, 2-4 hour gifts, 4-6 hour gifts, 6-8 hour gifts, and more-than-8 hour gifts.
The projects in it are great. From “Sideways fingerless gloves,” to “Cozy Coasters,” to the “Soft as a Cloud Cowls,” there is surely something in here for anyone to knit up! Did I mention how lovely and homey the photographs are? Truly a great book for your collection, and to help with all of those last minute projects!

We just received two very cool new tools! The Embellish-Knit and the Martha Stewart Knitting and Weaving Loom!
The Embellish-Knit tool makes an i-cord in only a matter of seconds! And anyone can use it! We are having so much fun playing with it here at the store!

The Martha Stewart Knitting and Weaving Loom is similar to the Knifty Knitter, but has some different features. It can be used with thick or thin yarns, and you can use it as an actual loom! How cool is that? We are excited to try it out! I’m thinking that either of these items would make a great gift for the holidays!
It’s the first week of November, and you know what that means, knitters… We should have started our holiday projects earlier this year! It always seems to sneak up on us, doesn’t it? But have no fear!!! We have lots of quick-knit project ideas and yarns. For November, we are featuring one of my favorites for yarn of the month, Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. Nothing is better for quick projects than a super bulky yarn.

Friday, October 14th is National I Love Yarn Day! Come into the store and celebrate with us! We will be having events throughout the day, and from 1-3 we will be hosting s knit-in in the classroom.
Have you tried entrelac yet? Entrelac is a form of knitting that makes a fabric of textured diamonds and triangles. While the end result resembles basket-woven strips of knitted fabric, the actual material is just interconnected squares knitted in one piece.
Here at Ben Franklin, entrelac keeps getting hotter! This is a perfect technique for any self striping yarn, or you can incorporate color work, too. The possibilities are endless! Just flip through “Entrelac: The Essential Guide to Interlace Knitting,” and you’ll see what we’re so excited about.
