Local Artist Highlight: Evan Nesbit

When customers come into the fabric department and purchase copious amounts of fabric, curiosity takes hold of me and I just have to ask: “what are you working on?” This was the case with Evan Nesbit who lives and works in Nevada City, CA. After measuring out yards and yards at a time of natural and colored burlap, we just had to know what he was making. Little did we know that this quiet artist was an international miNesbitxed media star! This contemporary artist earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in 2009 and then studied at the Yale University School of Art in 2012, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree and won the prestigious Ely Harwood Schless Memorial Fund Prize. He has been in many group exhibitions and several solo ones as well.  What he does with simple burlap is amazing! He creates lines and dimension, adds color and takes it away and gives burlap a completely different feel- he gives it emotion.

Add a little magic to your fabric projects with Terial Magic

TerryMeet local Nevada City girl- Terry McFeely! She shares her love for all things diy and her passion for quilting and sewing with us through the easy to use and sophisticated patterns she makes so that you can be a diy’er too! She founded Terial Arts™ in 2012 after inventing Terial Magic™ and creating several patterns for fabric art. The idea struck her after her daughter’s wedding for which, together, they made 800 fabric flowers for napkin decorations turned into brooches for each guest, plus centerpieces. Terry was frustrated with how the fabric frayed both during the making of and over time after finished. She came up with Terial Magic™ and now you too can create beautiful fabric flowers without the fray! The Terial Arts company brings you the most lush, elegant, yet easy to make flowers on the market! Terry is dedicated to her customers and provides very high quality illustrations, descriptions and images to make your fabric flower creations easy and fun.

Terry has been a Jane of All Trades with a background in engineering, drafting, home design, clothing design, bag design and graphic design. She thrives on using things she already has to create beautiful art and wants to help others find their inner creative without having to go out and buy out the craft or quilt store. Have a box of scrap fabrics? She has projects for those. Have remnant ribbon, trim and buttons? She has projects for those too!

We have Terial Magic Spray and many of Terry’s fabric flower patterns available here at Ben Franklin Crafts & Frame. We are proud to feature her in our fabric department and on our blog.
