We make it easy with our Wizard 9000. We know the mat is a very important part of a frame design—it not only unifies the space between artwork and frame but also
protects the artwork from a number of hazards. As framers, our first concern is to present artwork at its best. We know that sometimes a print, photograph, or similar type of paper-borne artwork can look “lost” in a frame without a mat. It can be difficult for the eye to move from the art image out to the solid, sturdy frame surrounding it. A mat provides a transition between these two worlds. That’s also why matboard color, shape, textures and designs are important in a frame design. Everything from how light or dark the matboard color is; a double or triple mat; or a matting with a specialty cut, pen or debossed design from our new Wizard 9000 affects how you see and react to the image in the frame. Matting in the frame design is also a practical measure. Works on paper, like many other items, react to their environment. Changes in temperature and humidity can cause paper to expand and contract, or buckle or cockle, making it “wavy.” A mat can help a piece of art from becoming deformed these ways. A mat also helps to protect by distancing the art- work away from the glass or acrylic. Some matboard products are also preservation-quality,meaning they are free of certain acids and other materials that can react with paper and cause it to yellow and degrade. There are even mats available that contain materials that actively seek out harmful pollutants that may be present. Whether you want a frame design that is decorative, preservational, or both, we can assist you in choosing a matting design that will meet all of your needs.
